WELCOME TO SAHAS Pathways

SAHAS Pathways grew from friendship, shared experience, and a simple idea: young women shouldn’t have to give up their education because life became too hard.

We support young women in Nepal with mentoring, encouragement, and practical help so they can keep studying, build independence, and create futures filled with possibility.

SAHAS is the Nepali word for COURAGE

Sahas Pathways is a targeted education initiative addressing structural barriers faced by young women in accessing and completing higher education in Nepal. Evidence shows that women-focused programs improve retention, confidence, and long-term outcomes.

Empowering young women

OUR AIMS

  • Improved retention and completion rates

  • Increased academic confidence and self-direction

  • Stronger transitions into employment or further study

WHAT WE DO?

We focus on providing programs, mentors and financial support designed to help young women gain skills and access resources for a better future.

HOW WE SELECT STUDENTS?

Selection is based on a combination of factors, including:

  • financial need

  • commitment to higher education

  • personal motivation and willingness to engage with the program

  • potential to benefit from mentoring and practical support

HOW TO HELP

There are a few ways you can support our students. You can send a message of encouragement, offer to mentor a student or a group in a specific subject, you can assist with funding either with a one time or regular donation,

Because SAHAS is intentionally a small program, places are limited. Our goal is to provide meaningful, individualised support rather than assist large numbers of students without adequate resources.

Our Team

Robyn Jones

Robyn is a retired high school English and Drama teacher, having spent over thirty years in education. Her work has always centred on supporting young people to find their voice, build confidence, and see possibility in their future.

Her connection to Nepal began in 2018, when she led a student volunteering trip to Papa’s House in Kathmandu. What stayed with her was not only the experience of the place itself, but the relationships formed—particularly with the young women who would later grow into the focus of SAHAS. SAHAS reflects Robyn’s long-standing commitment to education, combined with a deeply personal connection to the young women the program supports.

Robyn met Anu when she was one of the children living at Nepal Orphans’ Home (Pappa’s House). Anu participated in a writing workshop conducted by Robyn and they remained in contact through ESL lessons via zoom for the subsequent years.

Anu Basnet

Co-Founder. Managing Director.

Anu is currently studying social work at college in Kathmandu.

At the age of six, with four-year-old sister, Anu moved into Pappa’s House and spent the following ten years under the care of the wonderful Michael Hess.

Having grown up with limited resources and navigating the transition into independent adult life, Anu understands from direct experience how difficult it can be to continue education without stable financial support, access to employment, or a strong safety network.

Her insight into the everyday realities faced by young women in Nepal is central to SAHAS. She brings not only lived experience, but a clear understanding of what kind of support is practical, respectful, and genuinely helpful.

SAHAS Pathways was developed collaboratively by Robyn and Anu in 2026, shaped through shared experience, open conversation, and a mutual commitment to supporting young women to continue their education.
